SKIMS, a clothing brand co-founded by Kim Kardashian, is reuniting ‘90s icons Carmen Electra and Jenny McCarthy in its latest ad campaign.

“I couldn’t be more excited to be a part of SKIMS’ latest campaign,” McCarthy said.

“The energy on set was incredible, especially shooting alongside Carmen, who looks amazing. It felt like we were back in the ’90s and years later we’re still having fun.”

Why Is an Ad Campaign Featuring Carmen Electra/Jenny McCarthy Significant?

People who were in their teens and 20s in the ‘90s will remember Electra and McCarthy as the duo who hosted MTV’s Singled Out.

Predating similar shows like Rock of Love and Flavor of Love, each episode of Singled Out saw 50 singles competing to win a date with one contestant.

Airing from 1995 – 1998, the show has since achieved cult classic status, as it took a more comedic approach than its contemporaries, oftentimes casting singles based solely on their entertainment value, a trend that has been utilized in nearly every major dating show since.

The show was originally hosted by Chris Hardwick and Jenny McCarthy. When McCarthy left in 1997 to star in the sitcom Jenny, she was replaced by Carmen Electra.

Have Jenny McCarthy and Carmen Electra Worked Together in the Past?

Aside from both being hosts on Singled Out, McCarthy and Electra are both former Playboy models and have appeared together in 2005’s Dirty Love, which received the Golden Raspberry Awards for Worst Picture, Worst Screenplay, Worst Director, and Worst Actress (McCarthy).

After the disaster that was Dirty Love, this SKIMS ad campaign is something of a redemption arc for the pair.

What Have McCarthy and Electra Been Doing Since the ‘90s?

While the nostalgic SKIMS campaign has certainly boosted the current relevance of the two icons, neither of them ever completely disappeared.

After Singled Out, McCarthy went on to appear in a number of films and TV shows, including The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and her own The Jenny McCarthy Show.

Most recently, she has become a judge on Fox’s hit reality singing competition series The Masked Singer.

Electra also found a niche within reality TV, appearing on So You Think You Can Dance, RuPaul’s Drag Race, Dance Moms, and The Celebrity Dating Game, among others.

She also became a fixture of late-aughts spoof films, appearing in Date Movie, Epic Movie, and Meet the Spartans.

Fans speculate that the SKIMS campaign may signal a revitalization of both stars’ careers.
