Influencer Happens Upon Secret Door in Her House: Documents Findings

secret door

In July, California-based motivational speaker Julia Henning revealed on TikTok that she had discovered a trapdoor in her closet, something she was previously unaware of, despite having lived in her house for over three years.

Of course, being something of a social media personality, Henning documented her entire journey into what lies beyond the trap door.

What Did Julia Henning Find Beneath the Trap Door?

Henning had been cleaning out her closet when she noticed a small, easy-to-miss circular hole on the floor. She lifted it, revealing a janky set of stairs that led underground. She documented her journey downwards in a series, the first video of which has garnered over 32 million views.

In one of the video’s captions she claimed, “Despite my vast knowledge of every horror movie ever, I am literally THAT girl who went into the crawl space alone.”

And what did she find at the bottom of the stairs? Well, here’s a spoiler: nothing particularly interesting. The stairs led to a small crawl space. Written on one of the walls were the names “Joe” and “John.” On the floor was a clear jar that contained toy cars, a lighter, a toy bird, amongst other innocuous objects.

While the purpose of the room has yet to be determined, commenters insisted that it was likely once used as a wine cellar.

Finding Creepy Secret Rooms: A More Common Occurrence Than One May Think

While Henning’s situation is undoubtedly interesting, it ultimately didn’t turn into the horror story that her viewers may have been hoping for. In fact, it isn’t particularly uncommon for homeowners to find hidden rooms in their houses.

Take for example Courtney and Matt, a couple who last year received a letter addressed simply to “Purchaser.” The letter read the following.

“Let me introduce myself. I am the last surviving member of the Madison family, who once owned the house, and I grew up in it. I would like to… tell you about the secret rooms and a few things you may not have been told when you bought the house.”

The letter read Courtney and Matt to a secret liquor cabinet above their fireplace, a crawl space hidden in their bathroom, as well as a “huge” trunk space.

“We’re going to try and figure out how to use this space, but right now it’s just kind of a cool, cool room,” Courtney said of the final discovery.
