As the black bear gobbled up their feast of tacos and french fries, at Mexico City’s Chipinque Park, Silvia Macías sat statue still, shielding the face of her son, Santiago, who has Down Syndrome and is terrified of animals.

“That’s why I covered his eyes, because I didn’t want him to see it and scream or run. I was afraid that if he got scared or screamed or scared the bear, that the bear would react,” she explained. “I just think I’m a mother who protected her cub.”

She said the black bear was so close that she could smell him as he noshed on their dinner, until her friend snatched an uneaten plate of enchiladas and tossed it away from the table. The hungry bear followed and the trio was able to retreat quietly and slowly away.

Smuggled Baby Otter Terrorizes Plane Passengers on International Flight

A baby otter and a giant albino rat caused chaos on a flight out of Thailand, when a woman saw the rodent while she was walking to the bathroom. When she told the cabin crew, they found the otter under one of the seats.

One of the flight attendants was able to trap the rat, who viciously bit the person’s hand as they carried it into the kitchen in the back of the plane. A Chinese passenger eventually admitted to smuggling the animals onto the plane after buying them at a market in Bangkok.

When the flight landed in Taiwan, airport authorities searched every back on that had been on the plane and found even more live animals. Police found a bag that was stuffed with 28 star turtles, a snake, one marmot, two otters and two other unknown rodents.

The passenger who smuggled the animals onto the plane was detained by police and was not cooperative, even going as far as demanding a refund for the flight. She faces a fine of over $31,000 for violating laws in place for the Prevention and Control of Animal Infectious Diseases.

Residents of a Tampa, Florida apartment complex were greeted by a kangaroo bouncing nearby the communal swimming area on a not-so-typical Thursday morning.

Local police were alerted to the marsupial’s presence when a bewildered local dialed emergency services upon spotting the Australian ex-pat hopping around the complex.

The stunned caller told a 911 operator that she needed police assistance because, “There’s a kangaroo in my apartment complex.”

Law enforcement were dispatched and managed to corral the seven-year-old kangaroo, Hopper, into the gated perimeter of the pool.

The kangaroo’s escapade halted when it was safely enclosed and taken into custody by the Tampa cops, who cared for him until his owner, Dunia Ramirez, who lives a mile away from the complex, could be located.

Ramirez, arrived with state sanctioned documentation verifying that she owns not just one, but two kangaroos. She believes that Hopper escaped when a worker doing renovations on her property left a gate to Hopper’s enclosure open. Due to the kangaroo’s new found notoriety, she hopes to allow the local community to come visit him in his habitat.

Watusi Bull Causes Train Delays After Becoming The Most Unexpected Track Obstruction

An unexpected visitor—a bull on the loose—provoked up to 45 minutes of train delays for travelers heading towards New York City.

Jason Monticelli, one of the affected commuters from New Jersey, expressed his surprise to the local news, saying, “And I looked out the window and it was there, it was just kind of trotting down the track there.”

He speculated that the watusi bull’s appearance could be linked to the nearby stadium’s soccer team with a quip, “I thought maybe it was a Red Bulls PR stunt or something like that.”

Following the initial report of the loose bull during the morning rush, authorities managed to safely apprehend the animal by noon after tranquillization efforts.

The outlet explained that the bull was rehomed to a local sanctuary, though where it initially escaped from remains unclear. ABC News confirmed that the bull did not in fact give anyone the horns, and neither animal nor human were harmed during the bull’s run.
